If you’re looking to grow your red hair, add some shine or just make it healthier overall, a great method is an oil hair mask. Natural oils work wonders for things like red hair growth, shine, frizz, and overall hair health.
How to apply an oil mask to your red hair
Brush out any knots in your red hair and separate it into two sections if needed. Then, add a few drops of oil to your palms and work it thoroughly into your red hair. If you suffer from a more oily scalp, apply the oil from about your ears down, working it into the ends well. If your scalp is dry to normal, work the oil into your scalp.
Your hair should be lightly coated in oil, but not drenched. A few drops of oil go a long way. Twist your hair up into a bun and secure it. Let sit for anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hours before washing out with shampoo. You may need to wash several times to remove all the oils. Follow with conditioner.
You can add essential oils if you wish to fragrance it, or add some oil to your leave-in products if you do not wish to apply the oil straight to the hair. Repeat these steps every 2 weeks or as needed.
Redheads, self-care is vital for a balanced life. A great way to enact self-care is by treating yourself a little. Here are some of our favorite at-home spa products to pamper yourself with.
1. Hair Mask
Packed with nutritious oils including castor, argan oil, Abyssinian, macadamia, and jojoba oil. It’s your secret weapon to better hair days and help you reach your hair goals faster.

Selecting the right shampoo for your red hair can be difficult, but using the wrong shampoo can lead to lackluster hair. Here are a few tips on how to pick the right shampoo for your red hair:
1. Know your specific hair type
Most shampoos are designed for a specific hair type. Knowing what type of hair you have will help you narrow down your options. You can figure out your hair type by using an online quiz or talking with your hairstylist. Once you’ve determined your hair type, choose something specifically formulated for you.
For example, shampoo made for curly hair will help your curls be more defined and bouncy. Shampoo designed for oily hair will help to combat some of the oils without stripping moisture from your hair. Shampoo for color-treated hair will help lock in the color and avoid fading or discoloration.
2. Check the ingredients
Different types of hair benefit from different ingredients. Be sure to check out what’s in your shampoo to determine if it will benefit your hair type. Additionally, it’s good to know if the ingredients will be safe for your skin if you have sensitive skin.
Some shampoos offer pH balance which helps to reduce frizz and dryness without stripping the scalp of its natural oils. This helps to lock in shine and prevent breakage.
3. Try different shampoos
If you’ve narrowed it down to a few kinds, buy a small bottle or travel size to test them out. Give it at least a week for your hair to get acclimated before you move on to the next one. If you notice your hair is feeling too dry, too oily, you’ve got flakey scalp or any other issues, discontinue the use of that shampoo and try something else.
If you are looking for a new shampoo to add to your routine, look no further:

If you’ve got curly red hair you might have had a curly cut before. If not, keep reading because you might just want to book one when you’re done. Here’s the 411 on curly cuts for redheads:
What is a curly cut?
A curly cut is a haircut done on curly hair where the hair is cut to match the natural wave pattern. The cut is done dry and it’s meant for those who wear their hair in their natural curls.
If your red hair is naturally curly and you wear it naturally the majority of the time, you might benefit from a curly cut. It’s not for everyone but you might want to try one and see if it’s for you.
Every stylist will have a different approach to curly cuts and some stylists may not even do dry curly cuts. It’s best to find a stylist that you know does cuts on hair similar to yours.
If you have a curly cut, you will probably notice your curls are more defined, they lay nicer and your hair just looks better overall when in its natural state.

Picking drugstore foundation has never been easier, crimson beauties!
The hardest part about shopping for a redhead-approved drugstore foundation is testing it to make sure it’s a good match. As redheads, we usually have limited color options as it is, so finding the perfect shade can be even tougher. Here are a few tips and tricks that will help you find the perfect shade at the drugstore.
1. Know your undertones
Most foundations are classified based on two things, color, and undertone. Knowing your undertones will help you to narrow it down and avoid having the foundation look too warm or cool on your face. You can determine your undertones by taking a quiz online or just looking at your veins. Blue/purple veins mean you’re more cool-toned, green/green-blue veins mean you’re warm-toned. If your veins look somewhere in the middle or you can’t tell, you might be neutral-toned.
2. Know your skin type
Skin type isn’t directly correlated with skin color, but it will help you pick a good foundation. Knowing if you’re oily or dry or acne-prone will help you narrow down the foundations that will work for you. There’s nothing worse than picking the proper shade and the formula just doesn’t work for your skin.
3. Compare to your face and neck
People used to say you should compare foundation to the inside of your wrist, but most makeup artists suggest you compare it to your face and neck without makeup on. Your arms, hands, and wrists may be lighter or darker than your face and it just makes the most sense to compare to where you’ll actually be wearing it. Bring a mirror or a friend to help you with the comparison.
4. Do some research online
A great way to prepare yourself is to do some research online before you go. Once you’re in the store under fluorescent lights, everything can get muddled and confusing. Watching videos from people with similar skin tones, looking at swatches, and reading out color profiles can help you narrow it down. Then you can make sure your drugstore has what you’re looking for before you shop and you can go an idea of what you want already in mind.
5. When in doubt go lighter
At the end of the day, the only way to ensure a perfect match is to get color matched or try a tester. So if you’re in doubt about your perfect shade or you’re between two shades, go with the lighter one. Most redheads are pretty fair-skinned and wear the lightest shades anyways, plus you can always warm it up by mixing in a little bit of a darker shade or using bronzer.
6. Purchase more than one shade
Buy more than one shade if you’re torn between 2-3 shades and the price of the foundation is reasonable. You can then choose to cocktail the foundation at home with the different shades to mix the shade that’s right for you.
As the winter season rolls around, we get lost in the holidays and often forget that it’s time to change up our skincare routine. The cold, dry weather of winter can wreak havoc on your skin, so make sure you’re updating your skincare routine to keep your skin nice and healthy this winter. Here are a few winter skincare routine mistakes you don’t want to make this winter.
1. Using a lightweight moisturizer
During the rest of the year, a lightweight moisturizer is usually good enough for normal skin types. During the winter months, you will probably find your skin feeling dryer and more tight than usual. This is because the cold, dry air is drying out your skin. Swap your lightweight moisturizer for a heavier one, or add a heavy night cream into your routine in the winter to help hydrate your skin.
If you’ve noticed your skin getting dry, you might be tempted to exfoliate it. Over-exfoliation can lead to continued dryness and irritation. You do want to exfoliate, but keep it gentle, and don’t overdo it. Adding more moisture into your skincare routine will help ease that dryness over time.
3. Skipping out on sun protection
As redheads, it’s extremely important that we use sun protection year-round. While you might be able to ease up on the SPF 100 you slather on in the summer, don’t forget your facial SPF whenever you’re going to be exposed to sunlight.
Eczema and dry spots are very common during the winter, especially in those with sensitive skin. Neglecting these dry spots will make them hang around even longer. Treat your dry spots with heavy moisturizing cream, gentle facial oils, or spots specifically made for facial eczema.
Thinning red hair is something many of us struggle with at one point or another. Thinning hair can be caused by age, diet, hair treatment, or genetic reasons. There are a number of ways you can help to combat thinning red hair as well as products you can introduce into your routine.
If your hair is not getting the nutrients it needs, it might be falling out. Try swapping your shampoo and conditioner for something that will specifically target hair loss.
Regular stimulation of the scalp can help to promote blood flow and hair growth. Try getting regular scalp massages and/or using a scalp massager in the shower when washing your hair.
3. Try a densifying treatment
Densifying treatments can help your hair appear fuller and more voluminous. They can also help to promote the healthy growth of new hair.
For those experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy or genetic reasons, you might want to consider low-level light therapy. Studies have shown that laser light therapy can help to improve the density of your hair.
5. Avoid hair habits that increase thinning
There are a number of bad hair habits that could be contributing to your hair loss. This includes wearing your hair up too often, heat exposure, and a poor diet. Try kicking these hair habits to improve your chances of hair regrowth.
If you’re experiencing hair loss at a young age or at an alarming rate, there may be a medical reason why. Consult with your doctor to see if you have something going on like high-stress levels or a thyroid issue.

Good skincare habits during your teen years are vital, especially for redheads. Teenage skin goes through a lot of changes and it might seem impossible to get it looking good. Hormonal acne is normal and can get worse when you have sensitive redhead skin, but there are ways to help your skin be the best it can be. Here are a few tips for getting started with good skincare habits:
Everyone’s skin is different, and your skin will change as you get older. Learn what type of skin you have now so you know what products will work best. Most redheads have sensitive skin, so focus on products that say they are safe for sensitive skin.
2. Always fully remove makeup before bed
If you’re a redheaded teen who has started wearing makeup, it’s important to fully remove it at the end of the day. Makeup that’s left on the skin can cause clogged pores leading to more pimples.
It’s important to wash your face daily to remove any dirt, oils, or buildup. Having a clean face will help your skincare products soak in more and help you avoid blemishes. Removing your makeup is part of the face washing routine, but should not be your only form of cleansing.
Removing dead skin and build-up will help to have clear and smooth redhead skin. Find a gentle facial exfoliant to help remove imperfections. Exfoliate your face once or twice a week, don’t use exfoliant on blemishes, and don’t rub too hard.
5. Keep skin moisturized
The key to great skin is keeping it hydrated and moisturized. Moisturize your face in the morning before you apply makeup (if you wear any) and at night after you’ve washed your face. As a teen you don’t need heavy night creams, so a lightweight moisturizer will do. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.
6. Treat acne and blemishes
If you have acne and blemishes, it’s important to treat them properly. One thing you want to avoid is picking at pimples, and be sure to wash your hands before touching your face. Treat your pimples with a spot treatment, acne-specific face washes, or treatments prescribed by your dermatologist.
7. Avoid tanning & use sunscreen
It may not seem necessary when you’re in your teens, but the skincare and protection you do now will have an impact on your skin later. Stay out of the sun, always use sunscreen, and avoid tanning.
