4 Winter Skincare Routine Mistakes Redheads Might be Making

Don't let your redhead skin suffer this season

As the winter season rolls around, we get lost in the holidays and often forget that it’s time to change up our skincare routine. The cold, dry weather of winter can wreak havoc on your skin, so make sure you’re updating your skincare routine to keep your skin nice and healthy this winter. Here are a few winter skincare routine mistakes you don’t want to make this winter.

1. Using a lightweight moisturizer

During the rest of the year, a lightweight moisturizer is usually good enough for normal skin types. During the winter months, you will probably find your skin feeling dryer and more tight than usual. This is because the cold, dry air is drying out your skin. Swap your lightweight moisturizer for a heavier one, or add a heavy night cream into your routine in the winter to help hydrate your skin.

2. Over exfoliating

If you’ve noticed your skin getting dry, you might be tempted to exfoliate it. Over-exfoliation can lead to continued dryness and irritation. You do want to exfoliate, but keep it gentle, and don’t overdo it. Adding more moisture into your skincare routine will help ease that dryness over time.

3. Skipping out on sun protection

As redheads, it’s extremely important that we use sun protection year-round. While you might be able to ease up on the SPF 100 you slather on in the summer, don’t forget your facial SPF whenever you’re going to be exposed to sunlight.

4. Neglecting dry spots

Eczema and dry spots are very common during the winter, especially in those with sensitive skin. Neglecting these dry spots will make them hang around even longer. Treat your dry spots with heavy moisturizing cream, gentle facial oils, or spots specifically made for facial eczema.
