5 Holiday Treats to Boost Red Hair and Skin

Happy Holidays, Redheads!

Posted on

Rather than looking in your medicine cabinet or vanity table for a quick beauty fix, take a look in your kitchen! Stock up on these five holiday treats for healthy red hair and skin.

1. Chestnuts

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire may be just the trick for healthy skin this season. Chestnuts contain B vitamins that promote healthy skin, produce red blood cells, and improve brain function. They also contain manganese, which is a mineral that plays a key role in the aging process.

2. Sweet potatoes

I love a good sweet potato casserole, and apparently, we should be eating this superfood more often than just Christmas and Thanksgiving. Sweet potatoes are full of beta-carotene which protects your gorgeous skin from UV exposure. These orange roots are also bursting with Vitamins A, C, and E, which can help improve the look of your red hair. So this holiday, bake up your favorite sweet potato recipe, knowing you’re boosting the health of your hair and skin.

3. Chocolate

That’s right! Chocolate contains anti-aging antioxidants called flavonoids, which fight to protect your sensitive skin from UV damage and can help prevent the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin discolorations. Dark chocolate is better than milk chocolate, as the higher the amount of cocoa, the better the health benefits.  So, don’t be afraid to grab another handful of those chocolatey holiday sweets.

4. Almonds

Here’s another festive nut to include in your holiday baking. Almonds are not only packed with protein, but also with vitamin E, manganese, and selenium, which help keep your red hair shiny and protect your skin from the damaging UV rays.

5. Mulled wine

Last but not least, a holiday favorite of mine! Mulled wine is healthy on multiple levels.  The resveratrol in red wine helps rejuvenate cells and slow the aging process. The cinnamon and cloves in mulled wine have been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory effects.  And, the citrus in mulled wine is packed full of Vitamin C.  Your body needs Vitamin C to produce collagen—an important part of skin and hair structure. I knew this was my favorite holiday drink for a reason! But remember, everything in moderation.
