When the Halloween season rolls around, it’s fun to immerse ourselves in books, shows, and movies that capture the spirit of the season. We love seeing redhead representation in entertainment, which is why we’ve compiled this list of pieces that feature redheads and are perfect for Halloween.
This Netflix hit follows Wednesday Adams on her journey through her formative years away at Nevermore Academy. The redheaded dorm mother and botany teacher is played by Christina Ricci (who herself played Wednesday Adams in the 1990s).
A romance novel about a redheaded witch who lives in a town filled with both witches and humans. She teams up with a son of one of the town’s founding families and of course, a magical adventure unfolds that requires them to save the town before Halloween, all while falling in love.
Bonus: This is #2 in a series, so if you want a bonus book, read Book 1 “The Ex Hex” where our redhead is a side character in her cousin’s love story.
4. Monster House
This adorable kids’ movie is fun for the whole family, and the redhead character Jenny is fun for redheads of all ages to see. This movie is perfect for families to enjoy around the Halloween season.
5. Hocus Pocus
A classic Halloween movie that no October is complete without. Hocus Pocus 1 & 2 both featured redheaded Winifred Sanderson and her non-redhead sisters. These tree witches have become a staple in the Halloween movie rotation.
6. Scooby Doo
Another great pick for kids and adults alike is the Scooby Doo movies. Each one features redhead Daphne as part of the gang, and there are lots of mysteries to solve. Choose from live-action or cartoon versions — there are even a few Halloween specials.
7. The School for Good and Evil
This fantasy book-turned-film is such a fun flick for Halloween. The glamorous and acid-tongued Lady Lesso runs the School for Evil, and she’s just as fiery as her flaming red hair.
Another Halloween-themed romance, Bad Luck Charm follows a redhead occult shop owner in Salem who finds herself in a sticky situation when it seems she may be up next for sacrifice by an evil coven. Instead, she finds herself falling for the guy she’s had a crush on since she was a kid, but can he save her?
9. Practical Magic
It’s no Halloween season without a viewing of Practical Magic. The lovely Nicole Kidman plays redheaded Gillian Owens who is still giving us hair envy even 25 years after the film’s release.
Rock it like a Redhead!
