SPF is the most important skincare item redheads should use year round. Sometimes sunscreen can leave you looking washed out and even paler than you already are. Is there such a thing as glowy sunscreen? Can you actually get a “glow” from staying protected? Yes! Here is everything you need to know about the new “Glowy SPF” category + some of our favorites:
1. Glowy SPF is not the same as tinted moisturizer with SPF
Glowy SPF: Believe it or not, there are some new sunscreens on the market that will leave your complexion as glow as a highlighter. Glowy SPF gives you a nice glowy, dewy look but it’s not makeup and will not provide you with a foundation-like coverage. Normally, this type of SPF could be worn alone or under face makeup to add protection and glow.
Tinted Moisturizer with SPF: A tinted moisturizer (also commonly known as a skin tint) offers light facial coverage in your normal foundation shade. This is often worn in place of other face makeup for a light “no makeup” look.
2. This is how to wear + apply Glowy SPF
As mentioned, Glowy SPF looks amazing on its own if you’re going bare-faced, or you can layer it under your favorite foundation or other face makeup to add protection and make the skin glow. Glowy SPF should be applied with the hands or with an application brush. Skip the makeup sponge as it will soak up more product than a brush and you might not get even coverage.
