Award-winning actress and redhead icon, Jessica Chastain, sat down with The Guardian recently to talk about her newest project. She plays Tammy Wynette in the Showtime series, George & Tammy. Chastain is almost unrecognizable with her new blonde hair, but don’t worry it’s just a wig. She actually refuses to dye her natural red hair for any role.
The author of the interview, Emma Brockes, describes what Chastain wore to the interview, “She is all in pink: pink bomber jacket, pink shirt, pink glasses, her sheet of red hair like a shampoo ad against her paper-white face.” We love pink with red hair, and have admired how she rocks this color confidently throughout the years.
Chastain opened up about her early years growing up in California and being raised by both her grandmother and her mother. Both were very young and the family dipped in and out of poverty, but the actress was determined to make something of herself. Although she didn’t graduate high school and neither did her mother nor grandmother — she later got her diploma and got accepted to Julliard which helped to kickstart her acting career.
Chastain now lives in New York City with her husband and two children. As it turns out, the redhead takes the subway and is usually incognito thanks to a mask and hat. But, she tells The Guardian she still gets recognized because of her fiery red hair. Her red hair has always got her noticed and she recalls the first time she went to England and people yelled “ginger” at her in the streets.
This latest project comes on the heels of her recent role in the biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye which won her the 2021 Academy Award for Best Actress.
The entire series of George & Tammy is now available to stream on Showtime and the Showtime app. We can’t wait to see what Chastain has coming down the pipeline next!
