9 Makeup Tips If You’re a Redhead With Hooded Eyes

Embrace Your Hooded Eyes, Redheads!

Following the post titled: Best On The Go Eyeshadow Palettes for Redheads, when you have hooded eyes it can be quite frustrating. Your makeup may not look quite the same as it does on those without hooded eyes. There are a few tips and tricks you can use to make doing your makeup easier and get the look you want:

What are Hooded Eyes?

Hooded eyes are an eye shape where some of the excess skin and soft tissue cover the eyelid. The term refers to a facial feature where the eyelid crease is not easily visible because of the skin folding over the eyelid. This can give the appearance of a partially or fully covered eyelid when the eyes are open. This can cause a “hood” to form over the eyelid. Usually, this is something we are born with at birth, but hooded eyes can develop over time as we get older. Hooded eyes can often block the eyelid from being seen and cause makeup to “disappear” into the hood. It can also cause transfer of makeup from the lower eyelid onto the upper eyelid.

9 tips for redheads with hooded eyes

Experiment with different techniques to find what enhances your natural beauty. Here are some tips:

1. Prime your eyelids to minimize transfer. Use an eyeshadow primer, and don’t apply foundation or setting powder over it. You want to set it with your eyeshadow to help lock everything in place.

2. Line your upper lid only with a fine-point eyeliner pen.  Apply when your eyes are open, not closed. You can find tutorials and examples on TikTok by looking up “puppy liner”. Also, curl your lashes and opt for volumizing mascara to enhance your eye shape.

3. Blend your eyeshadow colors from light to dark at an upward angle and apply eyeshadow to the top part of the lid. Consider using eyeshadows in earthy tones like warm browns and subtle greens to complement your hair color. Focus on defining the crease to create dimension, and use waterproof eyeliner for a long-lasting look.:
