The Complete Guide to Cruelty-Free Beauty For Redheads

It's more than a buzzword

Edited: September 12th, 2023

There are tons of buzzwords you will see used in the packaging and marketing of beauty products. Some of them mean virtually nothing, while others can give you a good indicator of the values of the brand, and others can allow you to look for common allergens, and key ingredients.

One phrase you’ve probably seen time and time again is “cruelty-free”, but what does that really mean? And how do you find products that are truly cruelty-free? We’re going to break all of that down for you:

What constitutes “cruelty-free”?

The term “cruelty-free” indicates the product has been developed without animal testing. Animals have long been used as test subjects to ensure the product’s safety for humans. This practice is no longer necessary thanks to advancements in technology and other lab-generated testing options. Many people will confuse cruelty-free with vegan, but the two are not mutually exclusive. Vegan means a product doesn’t contain any animal products or animal by-products, but cruelty-free refers to just the testing of the product.

How to find cruelty-free products:

Most products will be labeled with terms like “cruelty-free”, “not testing on animals” or “no animal testing”. Some companies have even come up with little logos to indicate that they don’t test on animals. However, as we know not all branding is truthful, so the best way to find cruelty-free brands and products is to look for the Leaping Bunny logo. This is an internationally recognized organization that has strict guidelines that must be followed in order to use the logo. Customers can trust that when they see this logo, they know the products were never tested on animals.

We love animals at H2BAR:

As you may know, all H2BAR products are clean, cruelty-free, Leaping Bunny approved, paraben-free, and vegan. They’re also made without alcohol, gluten, GMO’s, oil, paragons, phthalates, silicones or talc.
