How to Wear Pink Lipstick – Inspired by Isla Fisher’s Look

Updated: October 26th, 2023

Over the years, we’ve learned pink lipstick can look ravishing on a redhead. The trick is to choose the right color pink for your particular skin tone and most importantly, rock the look with confidence! Some might wonder how to apply foundation, eye makeup and lipstick without overdoing it. Here’s some inspiration from Isla Fisher, who always seems to effortlessly rock a bright pink lip with a smokey eye.

Step 1: Moisturize

Let’s get started with a day cream. It’s a must in the beauty routine because it moisturizes the skin and provides a good base for the makeup.

Step 2: Concealer, Foundation and Blush

CONCEALER: Many redheads have to deal with blueness in the eye area. For those of us wondering why we have discoloration in that area, it’s because the veins near the eyes are very fine and the skin is very thin. If you want to get rid of it, use a slightly yellowish tone to get rid of the blueness. One of my personal favorites is Dior Forever Concealer. I love it because it’s a creamy formula and doesn’t get into the creases.

FOUNDATION: Apply a little of Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Eclát Foundation. It’s gel-based and creates a healthy glow.

BLUSH: Apply a pinkish blush along your cheekbones.

Step 3: Eye Makeup

EYESHADOW: Mix porcelain and golden eyeshadow shades on the eyelid. If you have blue eyes, earth-toned colors will make them pop even more. In the case of brown and green eyes, purplish shades will do the trick.

Tutorial: How to Do a Fishtail Braid on Your Red Hair

For this fishtail braid, you will need a tail comb and redhead ties.

Create desired part and gather your hair at the nape of the neck with your redhead hair ties.

Split held ponytail into two equal sections. Take a thin section of hair from the outside of the right and cross it over to the inside of the left.

Now take an equal amount from the outside of the left and cross it over to the inside of the right. Continue to work from right to left until you have completed your braid.

Note: Taking smaller sections of hair will deliver a more intricate look. Be sure to keep a firm hold so the braid is tight. For a more playful look, loosen after the braid is completed.

To clean up loose layers, use a redhead bobby pin.

Rock it like a Redhead This School Season With American Eagle

Everyone has caught the back-to-school fever. Stephanie and Adrienne, Founders of How to be a Redhead, vividly remember how important the first day of school was.. not to catch up friends or to find out who your new teacher was, but to showcase your newest and most fashionable clothes. The goal was to get compliments like “LOVE IT!”, “You look great!” and “So cute!”

The best compliment-guaranteed, back-to-school shopping spree must be at American Eagle. The clothes are great quality, incredibly trendy.. and the current fall collection has the best “redhead friendly” colors to complement your red locks.

Both Stephanie and Adrienne are constantly on-the-go and whether in New York City or traveling to other cities and small towns, they can always find their perfect look at American Eagle. They both have styles that express their individual personalities and they’ve showed us just how they did it.. from the city to the beach.

    STEPHANIE, CITY LOOK:

Stephanie’s look can be described as boho-chic with a bit of an edge. You can find her walking through New York City with a simple bootie and a relaxed, but expressive outfit. She chose the the AE Lace Dress, AE Faded Denim Jacket, AEO IKAT Loop Scarf and AEO Strap Bootie.

The AE Lace Dress is, what Stephanie would say, “so her.” And, it’s a look that most girls absolutely love! It’s a really pretty dress that is soft and the bottom layer is stretchy for a comfortable material. It’s more of a loose fit and is great to throw on, especially when you are running late to class.

Stephanie paired her dress with the AE Faded Denim Jacket. It’s a faded dark blue wash and it feels like you’ve owned it for years. It’s fitted enough so it doesn’t look sloppy and can easy be thrown on to make any outfit look spectacular.

The AEO Loop Scarf gave color to her outfit and definitely made her red hair stand out. It’s an extremely soft material with enough room to double loop around the neck while still giving you room to feel comfortable. It’s a great buy for summer and fall.

She dressed up her look with the AEO Strap Bootie. It is soft suede with adjustable straps. It’s a fantastic accessory piece for dresses or straight leg jeans. The heel is perfect for city walking and isn’t too high.

    ADRIENNE, BEACH LOOK:

Adrienne’s style is very simple with splashes of color and she always rocks shades, especially in the summer sun. She chose Dark Denim Midi Shorts, AE Printed Pullover, AE Denim Vest, AEO Aviator Sunglasses and simple AE flip flops.

First and foremost, American Eagle denim shorts never disappoint. They will last for years and always fit well. A great trick to keep them looking chic is to iron them before wearing them to school or out on the town.

The AE Printed Pullover is a beautiful color that makes red hair pop. It is really unique because it’s light, airy, great for summer & fall weather and pairs well with just about anything. The front of the pullover is a silky chiffon fabric and is probably different than anything you have ever bought.

Adrienne loves to mix up dark and light denim. That’s why she chose the AE Denim Vest. It fits perfect and can be button with a little added room.

For accessories, Adrienne chose the AEO Aviator Sunglasses because they are a classic choice that can be worn five to ten years down the road. And, she completed her beach look with a simple pair of AE sandals. They are great for the beach bum look.

No matter what city you live in, you’re guaranteed to be the most fashionable girl in school. Rock it like a Redhead and ROCK THAT WALK!

How to Transition Your Redhead Beauty Routine from Summer to Fall

    Part 1!

It’s always sad to say goodbye to the fun summer months of red hair flowing in the hot air and sun-kissed skin because the transition into the fall season can be rough on our hair and sensitive skin. But, with the right products and tips, transitioning won’t be so hard.

Here are six”redhead friendly” skin and makeup tips for your changeover from summer to fall:

    1. Cleanse

The pollution in the air takes a toll on our skin, especially if you live in cities. It’s important to deeply cleanse the skin to get rid of impurities.

‘Redhead Friendly’ Option: Vichy Pureté Thermale Purifying Foaming Cream

    2. Exfoliate

Avoid harsh exfoliants and opt for a gentler scrub formula. Remember to apply with soft circular movements because rough movements may cause redness and excessive dryness. And, only exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week.

‘Redhead Friendly’ Option: ACURE Brightening Facial Scrub

    3. Moisturize

When selecting a moisturizer for the fall months, choose one that is rich and thicker.

‘Redhead Friendly’ Option: Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

    4. Wear sunscreen

Even though the fall months are cloudy, windy, rainy.. and sometimes sunny, it’s always important to wear sunscreen on a daily basis. The sun rays are still very powerful and can be damaging to the skin. I’d suggest applying a moisturizer with SPF to help you protect your skin all day long. This can be applied before or after your daily moisturizer.

‘Redhead Friendly’ Option: Aveeno Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30

    5. Add some bronzer

Leave the bronzer for the summer months and add a little color to your face with a peach/goldish toned blush. This will give you a glowing complexion.

‘Redhead Friendly’ Option: Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzing Powder

    6. Rock a bold polish

Deep reds, amethyst purple, mossy and forest greens and deep ocean blues are the perfect transition colors for summer-fall.

‘Redhead Friendly’ Option: ZOYA Nail Polish Elphie

Who Said Redheads Can’t Pull Off BRIGHT Pink Lipstick? Jessica Chastain Proves Everyone Wrong

    Updated: October 26th, 2023

People often say, “Redheads can’t wear pink lipstick.” Redhead star, Jessica Chastain attended the movie screening of Lawless and looks fabulous with pink lipstick, right?! Whoever said redheads can’t wear this shade is wrong. You just have to pink the right color.

Just like their are many shades of red hair, there are also many shades of pink. Like with everything else, you need to test and experiment. In my endeavors, I have found that the darker-skinned redheads look better in lighter pink lipsticks and light-skinned redheads look better in brighter, deeper pinks.

Pink lips can be tricky since pink lip products are everywhere, by every brand, in every shade, for every price. It’s not a bad idea to park yourself in front of the makeup counter at Sephora and experiment for an hour or two. I have several pinks in my makeup bag and I always choose the color that is best for the event I am attending. But, my go to pink “redhead friendly” lipstick is How to be a Redhead Finally Bold® Lipsticks!
