One of the summer’s most anticipated films is Barbie. There have been tons of Barbie movies over the years, but this new addition to the Barbie movie universe is a live-action take on the classic doll and her wonderful world. Unlike the other Barbie movies, this one is for adults. The trailers show witty humor packed in with nostalgia for a generation of girls who grew up Barbie-obsessed.
The movie stars Margot Robbie as the main Barbie and tons of backup Barbie’s and Ken’s. One thing we LOVE about the new movie is the amount of redheads featured. Unfortunately, none of the redhead Barbies are being played by natural redheads, but we will take what we can get.
Emerald Fennell is playing Midge who was introduced to the Barbie universe in 1963 and marketed as Barbie’s best friend. The Midge doll has always been a redhead and is probably the most well-known redhead from the Barbie line.
Hari Nef, an actress and model best known for her role in the Emmy-winning television show Transparent, is playing a doctor Barbie with ginger locks.
Nicola Coughlan, best known for her role in Derry Girls and her other redhead role as Penelope Featherington in the Bridgerton series, is playing a diplomat Barbie with bright red hair.
Michael Cera is playing a redhead doll named Allan. He was introduced just one year after the Midge doll as a friend of Ken’s. Fun fact, the doll was named after the son-in-law of Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattel.
Rock it like a Redhead!
