3 Ways To Create an Edgier Flair To Your Redhead Makeup Routine

90s Grunge Makeup is Back!

If there’s one thing about redheads, many of us (thanks to TikTok) have the minimal, fresh-faced “no makeup” look down. Our freckles peek through and with the help of Finally Have Lashes redhead mascara and a few swipes of Finally Have Brows tinted brow gel, it’s perfection. But minimal, low-key makeup isn’t for everyone, and that includes some redheads. 90s styles and “edgy” grunge-style makeup have been trending. If you’re wondering how to achieve this look, we’ve got you!

1. Eyeliner

The key to these “edgy” or “grunge” makeup looks is eyeliner. Now we normally love brown liner for redheads, but to achieve this look you have to use black. Black liner gives that dark, grunge look you’re going for. You can use a liquid liner and create a wing, or try a pencil liner and smudge it out. But it’s important to use liner on both the top and bottom of your eye to really get the look you’re going for.  Many redheads have the added benefit of fair skin, which will make the black liner pop even more.

For a grunge edgy makeup look, consider these eyeliner techniques:

1. Smudged Liner: Apply a creamy black eyeliner along your upper lash line, then smudge it out with a small brush or a cotton swab for a worn-in look.

2. Graphic Liner: Create bold, angular lines or geometric shapes using a black liquid eyeliner for a striking contrast against the rest of your makeup.

3. Winged Liner: Apply a classic winged eyeliner using a black gel or liquid liner, but extend the wing slightly further and make it more angular for a edgier vibe.

4. Double Liner: Line both your upper and lower lash lines with a black eyeliner, then add a second line above or below the first using a different color or texture, like a metallic liner or a dark eyeshadow, for dimension.

5. Smoked Out Liner: Line your eyes with a black pencil liner, then smudge it out with a smudging brush or eyeshadow for a smoked-out effect that adds depth and intensity to your eyes.

2. Mascara

Another product we adore in shades of auburn and brown is mascara, but again for this look, it’s gotta be black! Try the Finally Have Lashes® Hourglass Mascara in “Perfectly Black” to make your lashes pop. Apply your mascara heavily to the outer corners to accentuate the eye and create that cat-like affect. Bottom lash mascara is optional.

3. Lips

An edgy eye look can either be paired with a more neutral lip if you want the eyes to be the star of the show or if you want to go full-on bold — go dark. We love a dark lip on redheads and think more redheads should embrace dark lip colors. Try a dark pinky brown, a dark red or even a black if you want to fully commit.

To apply a dark red grunge edgy lip, start by exfoliating your lips to ensure a smooth canvas. Then, line your lips with a dark red lip liner, slightly overlining if desired for added drama. Fill in your lips with a dark red lipstick using a lip brush or straight from the bullet for precision. Blot with a tissue and reapply for intensity. For a grunge effect, gently smudge the edges with your fingertip or a cotton swab. Optional: add a touch of black lipstick or eyeshadow to the center and blend outward for depth.
