What Is Active Exfoliation & Is It Good For Sensitive Redhead Skin?

Everything redheads need to know

Active exfoliators, often known as chemical exfoliators, are a form of facial exfoliation. Exfoliation is an important part of the skincare routine, as it rids our pores of dead skin cells, product build-up, and flaky or uneven texture. There are two common types of exfoliants:

  1. Active/chemical
  2. Physical

Active/chemical exfoliants use active ingredients to chemically dissolve the particles.

Physical exfoliants are ones that use the act of rubbing or scrubbing to release the build-up. These exfoliants often have some sort of rough particles in them to help get the job done.

Although the words “active/chemical” may sound harsh, these exfoliants are actually gentler on sensitive skin. The reason for this is the active ingredients are added at a low percentage and diluted with other ingredients that help the skin.

Physical exfoliants are usually rougher on the skin and can irritate the skin due to the need to rub and scrape the product onto the skin. That’s why active/chemical exfoliants are the preferred method for those with sensitive skin like most redheads.
