When we formulated the red lipstick, we knew it had to be right. So many redheads think they can’t wear red! We love a red lip and think redheads should rock it as often as they can. The secret to perfecting the red lip? It’s all about tips and tricks to make your red lip look amazing and stay all day.

Here are the 6 best tips for rockin’ a red lip (with your red hair):

Finally Bold® - Lipsticks for Redheads: $26

1. Prep your lips

Lipstick looks the best and stays the longest when your lips are prepped and primed. To prep your lips for red lipstick, start by exfoliating with a lip scrub or a DIY mix of sugar and honey. Gently rub the mixture on your lips to remove dead skin. Follow up with a hydrating lip balm to keep your lips smooth. Blot excess balm before applying the red lipstick for better adherence and longevity. Use a lip mask frequently, and apply a hydrating lip balm to your lips about 30 minutes before applying your lipstick.

2. Use a lip liner

Keep your lipstick from smudging and get the perfect shape by using lip liner. Find a red 1-2 shades darker than your lipstick depending on your preferred style. Line your lips before applying your lipstick for an all-day stay.

To apply lip liner, start by outlining the natural shape of your lips. Use short, feathery strokes for precision. You can then fill in your lips with the liner to create a base for your lipstick, helping it last longer. Choose a liner color close to your lipstick shade for a seamless look.

3. Use the finger/tissue method

You’ve probably seen your mom or grandmother blot her lipstick on a tissue, well there’s a reason for that. It removes excess lipstick and helps avoid transfer to the teeth. Another method is to place a clean finger in your mouth, close your lips lightly around it, and pull it out. This removes any lipstick close to the inside of the lip that may transfer to your teeth

4. Set your lipstick

If you want your red lip to last, set your lips with a light dusting of translucent powder. After applying your red lipstick, place a tissue over your lips and lightly dust translucent powder over it. This sets the lipstick without altering its color. The powder helps absorb excess oils, enhancing the longevity of your lip color.

5. Eat/drink mindfully

Eating/drinking is the number one thing that makes your lipstick fade, become patchy, and smudge. Eat/drink mindfully when wearing red lipstick by using a fork or spoon, avoiding touching your lips, and using a straw when drinking liquids.

6. Don’t be afraid to reapply

Lipstick isn’t meant to last forever, and it always looks best when freshly applied. Grab your Finally Bold® and throw it in your purse for quick and easy reapplication. The semi-matte, redhead-approved creamy formula glides on with a lightweight, non-sticky sheen; and the clean formula features shea butter to provide hydration while providing sheer-to-medium coverage. The formula is vegan, cruelty-free, Leaping Bunny Approved, and made without alcohol, gluten, GMOs, oats, wheat, parabens, phthalates, oil, sulfates, or talc. Choose your shade, rock it with your red hair, and get ready to feel bold.
