Fact: On average, redheads have the least amount of red hair strands on their head than any other hair color.
While most of us gingers have thicker red strands to make up for the lesser count of hair on our heads, this doesn’t necessarily give us volume. So what’s a girl to do when she’s got such a gorgeous, unique natural color, but her red hair falls flat?
Thankfully, we’ve got some amazing ‘redhead friendly’ products out there to help give a boost of fullness to our tresses. Being a hairstylist myself, I’ve had the opportunity to personally try all of these and have compiled a list of my favorites for redheads that need a little pick-me-up.
1. Big Sexy Hair Get Layered*
This hairspray is perfect if you have lots of layers. It gives body to the hair while locking in your fresh style. For best voluminous results, flip your head upside-down and spray the underside of your hair. When you flip right-side-up, you’ll have big, fabulous, amped-up hair.
2. Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Sculpting Foam*
This one is for my curly girls. If you’re struggling to maintain full, bouncy curls, this mousse is perfect! It’s a firm hold mousse, ensured to keep your curls separated and defined all day long.
3. Bed Head Small Talk
This unique product has dozens of uses! Small Talk protects your red locks from heat damage while adding thickness and volume to your hair. I’d recommend this one to put into your freshly-washed hair for a bit of grip to ensure your style stays in place.
4. AG Hair Tousled Texture*
Aside from how gorgeous AG Hair’s product packaging is and the wonderful floral scent they have, I adore the endless texture the products have to offer, especially with this playful, medium-hold hairspray.
5. Big Sexy Hair What a Tease Backcomb in a Bottle*
If you want some serious volume in your style, this is the one for you. Take precaution not to over-do your do with this product, it has impressive hold and it’s easy to get carried away. Use this spray to get a dramatic look for a night on the town!
6. Puff.ME Volumizing Cloud Mist*
Puff.ME is packaged in a miniature spray bottle. The product comes out in a little cloud (hence the name) to ensure it is distributed evenly to the area in which you’re applying it. I fell in love with this genius design. But don’t be fooled by its micro size: A little goes a long way. Use this one sparingly!
7. Paul Mitchell Invisiblewear Volume Whip*

I love Volume Whip is because it can be used on straight, wavy, and curly hair types, beneficial for every kind of curl pattern (or lack thereof) you may have in your red locks.

8. Paul Mitchell Invisiblewear Pump Me Up*
Similar to Puff.ME, Pump Me Up comes in a little dry misting bottle that dispenses the product in a cloud. However, it isn’t quite as potent as the Puff. Apply directly to the roots for a gentle lift, tousle a bit into your ends or spritz a bit onto your braid and gently pull apart to give your style fullness and texture.
Bonus: The color of the product is actually tinted blonde, so it blends in with red locks without any noticeable powdery look.
