Sunburned Lips: The Best Ways Redheads Can Soothe and Heal Them

How to prevent a lip sunburn

The best way to prevent sunburned lips is to apply a lip balm with SPF in it. It’s important to apply SPF even if you’re wearing lipstick because the rays can still penetrate the color and burn your lips underneath. It’s crucial you reapply your SPF throughout the day as it can be wiped away with the intake of food and water as well as by sweat and saliva. If you are wearing lipstick and don’t want to remove it to apply SPF, then find a lipstick with SPF built into the formula.

Additionally, it is important to avoid clear lip glosses and lip oils, as they will not provide any protection and may cause your lips to burn faster.

How to heal sunburned lips 

If you are suffering from sunburned lips, there are a few ways to get relief and help them heal:

1. The most important thing is to keep them moisturized and hydrated. You can do this by increasing your water intake and also frequently applying a hydrating lip balm.

2. If you have discomfort or pain on your lips from your sunburn, try soothing it with a cooling lip balm, aloe vera gel or ice cubes or ice roller.

3. Try to avoid applying lip color to sunburnt lips as it may irritate them. 

4. Avoiding the sun is also crucial for healing sunburnt lips. If you cannot avoid going outside, try wearing a face mask or hat to reduce the direct sunlight on the lips.

5. Always wear SPF!
