Keeping your red hair healthy and beautiful is not a job for the salon only! You can do wonders with at-home DIY hair care. These tips are perfect for when you want a little pampering or to up your hair game: 

How to get a brighter shine

Give your hair shine and luster with an at-home oil mask.

What you need:

Castor oil

Argan oil

Depending on your hair thickness and length, mix equal parts castor oil and argan oil in your palm and apply to the hair. Skip the scalp if you’re oily, and focus on your ends. Then twist it up in a clip and let sit for at least 30 minutes. Wash out with shampoo and conditioner. 

How to stop red hair from fading 

Cranberry Juice: Wash your hair normally and then rinse generously with 100% pure cranberry juice. Comb the juice through your hair and let it sit for up to 1 hour. Rinse and apply a leave-in conditioner. Read more here.

Color Depositing Shampoo/Conditioner: Red hair fades and if you’re natural or ‘by choice’, you know we love color depositing shampoos and conditioners to “up” red without roots and dye. You can easily do it in the comfort of your shower and the results are great.

How to remove build-up

What you need:

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Rosemary Oil

Depending on your hair thickness and length, remove excess build-up with apple cider vinegar (ACV)  and rosemary oil. Combine your ACV and your rosemary oil to make a rinse for your hair. Scrub on and wash out.

How to hydrate your locks 

What you need:

Plain yogurt


Create a hair mask with plain yogurt and apply it all over your hair. Leave it in for 15-20 minutes before rinsing. Add avocado for shine and strength, citrus for pH balance, or oil for shine. 

How to restore the health of your hair 

What you need:

1 ripe banana

Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)

Banana and olive oil are great for restoring your hair health. Simply use one ripe banana and one tablespoon of olive oil. Blend or mash the banana until lump free and then add the oil until a smooth mask has formed. Apply to hair and leave for 10 – 15 minutes before rinsing.
