Aveda, The Art and Science of Pure Flower and Plant Essences, is deep rooted in the belief that nature is the best method for hair care. Natural redheads and redheads ‘by choice’ searching for a daily regimen with the most organic and effective results, look no further. I have personally tested Aveda’s hair products and they’ve been deemed ‘redhead friendly.’
Q: Which Aveda product line would you suggest for a natural redhead?
A: I would recommend Aveda’s Madder Root Shampoo and Madder Root Color Conditioner, to a natural redhead. Madder Root is not a red concentrate; it’s more of a red/orange color. It’s best suited for natural redheads, opposed to color-treated reds.
Q: What are the active ingredients in Madder Root that make the product line well suited for natural redheads?
A: The Madder Root Shampoo features Aveda’s Pure-Fume aroma, with a fruity scent reminiscent of dark cherry and a blend of organic essential oils, including: organic lemon and ylang ylang (an oil made from the flowers of the herb Cananga odorata genuina, used to promote relaxation). Madder Root Color Conditioner is a deep conditioning treatment, with a lotion-like texture, that enriches warm, red tones in natural shades of red hair. It leaves hair feeling light weight and manageable. Botanical ingredients include: coconut, to prevent static and promote easier combing; wheat protein, used to help protect hair from damaging heat, such as blow drying, flat-ironing and curling.
Q: Which Aveda products would you recommend for redheads ‘by choice’?
A: For a redhead ‘by choice’, I would suggest using the Color Conserve Shampoo, Damage Remedy Restructuring Conditioner and Color Conserve Daily Color Protect. The Color Conserve collection is designed to extend the vibrancy of color-treated hair, naturally. Color Conserve Daily Color Protect, is a leave in treatment that seals in color to help protect it from fading, for up to six weeks. It infuses hair with moisture for a luminous shine, while protecting hair from UV rays and other harsh elements. Damage Remedy Restructuring Conditioner helps rebuild your hair, while providing structure. It’s the ideal product for someone who is growing their hair out or someone that goes through a lot of color processing. It’s for dry hair or hair that’s damaged.
Q: Any tips for redheads to preserve color outside of the salon?
A: Redheads need to have shine; otherwise their color looks flat and dull. Brilliant Damage Control is a spray that every redhead should use. It’s a pre-styling tool that protects hair from damaging heat. If they’re a redhead by choice they need to be using cold water when they shampoo. They can’t shampoo every day; I suggest once every four days, using dry shampoo in between, to soak up oil. Someone who is a more vibrant redhead by choice could always put their hair color in their conditioner, so every time they condition it refreshes their color.
