It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students. As redheads, many are bullied because of their unique appearance: freckles, red hair and light skin. Thanks to a Reddit post, a little girl’s question and answer from Will Wheaton (a famous actor, blogger and writer) about bullying has resurfaced from last year.
Wheaton responded by saying, “When a person makes fun of you, when a person is cruel to you, it has nothing to do with you. It’s not about what you said. It’s not about what you did. It’s not about what you love. It’s about feeling bad about themselves.”
He even went on to describe his own bullying experience in his younger years, “When I was a boy, I was called a nerd all the time. Because I didn’t like sports, I loved to read, I liked math and science, I thought school was cool — and it hurt a lot. Because it’s never OK when a person makes fun of you for something you didn’t choose…”
For the many redheads out there facing bullying, take this advice and stand tall. You’re beautiful.
Rock it like a Redhead!
