Protect Your Crowning Glory: Three Do-It-Yourself Conditioning Treatments

Having red hair is a signature color that gets you noticed in an instant- so it’s important to keep your crowning glory in tip top condition! Many salon treatments are time consuming and expensive, but you’re in luck because there are some great “Do It Yourself” hair treatments that are natural, super effective and won’t break the bank:

1. Brighten Your Tresses with a Tea Treatment: The natural antioxidants and ph balance contained in tea closes hair cuticles to create shine and helps to repair styling damage. Simply soak your strands for high-wattage shine and rich color:

-2 tea bags of rooibos tea, a rich orange blend perfect for redheads &

-2 cups water

Whenever your locks look dull, steep tea bags in boiling water for 10 minutes. Let the liquid cool to room temperature or for a cool boost on a hot day, refridgerate it. Pour the mixture over wet, just-washed hair, rubbing it through the way you would shampoo. Leave the rinse on for 10 minutes; wash and condition to seal in the glossy results.

2. Tame Frizz With An All-Natural Hair Mask: Bananas are loaded with potassium and avocados are full of moisturizing fatty acids, so this combination packs a punch to soften hair and banish frizzies! Try this natural remedy to cure your naturally red, frizzy hair:

-1 banana
-1/2 avocado

Mash banana and avocado together, then comb the mixture through dry hair, which absorbs more nutrients than wet then cover hair with a plastic cap (the heat it creates increases penetration) and leave on hair for 10 minutes; rinse clean with cool water.

3. Repair And Nourish Your Scalp With Olive Oil: The conditioning oils contained in olive oil moisturize the scalp and gives hair an overall healthier, silky appearance. If your locks are tired from heat styling and looking dry, this mask will replenish and repair your red hair:

½ cup olive oil
( optional: three drops essential oil for a yummy fragrance, like Lavender or wild Frankincense )

Pour olive oil into a jar with a lid, then add essential oil. Put lid on jar and shake well to disperse the essential oil. Let sit for 24 hours in a cool, dark place. Shake again before use. Rinse hair with warm water. Warm 1 tablespoon of oil treatment in the palms of your hands and gently massage the oil into the scalp. Repeat until the entire scalp has been massaged. Rub the ends of your red hair with the remaining oil. For an intensive treatment, place plastic cap over your head and allow the oil to deeply penetrate your hair for at least a half-hour. Rinse well, then shampoo and lightly condition, usual.

With these all natural hair treatments, you can be green and SAVE some green while keeping your ravishing red hair in great condition!
