Sun protection is vital for redheads because our skin can burn easily and leaves us at a higher risk of skin cancer. Most of us use a combination of SPF products, clothes for coverage, and keep out of the sun. Did you know clothing with SPF in it does exist? It’s called UPF clothing and it is getting more and more advanced and stylish each year.

What is UPF clothing?

The cloth actually absorbs or blocks harmful UV radiation and helps to keep you protected against sun damage and skin cancer, unlike regular clothing which cannot keep all the rays out.

Who can benefit from UPF clothing?

UPF clothing is just like regular clothing in terms of fit and feel and can be worn by anyone. Those who will likely benefit are those with burn-prone skin looking for an added layer of protection, those with sensitive skin who may not be able to use SPF products, those on medications that make burning more likely, and anyone who wants a little peace of mind when it comes to sun protection.

Is UPF clothing all I need?

Unfortunately, there is no one solution for keeping your skin 100% safe from the sun. All sun protection techniques should be used in conjunction with others to ensure full body protection. That means you should still wear sunscreen with your UPF clothing, bring a hat, keep out of the sun and wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
