Sunday may have been Leo’s night, but he shared his spotlight with some gorgeous redheads who made memorable appearances at the 88th Annual Academy Awards. Although we missed a few familiar faces like Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone, and Amy Adams (see her Vanity Fair After-Oscar Party look here), the Oscars was still well-represented by several redheaded beauties this year.
Julianne Moore
We knew we were guaranteed at least one redhead appearance on the Oscars red carpet Sunday night, and here she is! Julianne Moore was sure to return to the Academy Awards this year, because as last year’s Best Actress winner, she would be expected to present this year’s award for Best Actor. Moore looked as classy as ever in this black, Chanel gown and loose red waves.
Sophie Turner
Remember when Dorothy was being made over in the Emerald City, and she asked, “Can you even dye my eyes to match my gown?” Well, Oz’s “Wash & Brush Up Company” must have taken care of Sophie Turner yesterday, because her eyes were a perfect match to her sage green Galvan gown. Turner was sure to let everyone know that her look was completely sustainable–a nod to “Red Carpet Green Dress,” an initiative endorsing eco-friendly garments on the red carpet. She accented her look with Louboutin heels, Tiffany jewelry, and gorgeous, red, side-swept waves.
Lily Cole
But, Sophie Turner was not the only proponent of “Red Carpet Green Dress” Sunday night; there were actually two women supporting the cause, and both were redheads. Model, Lily Cole also walked the red carpet in a fully sustainable ensemble. She tweeted, “Leaving for the Oscars! Wearing a dress made of plastic bottles by Vivienne Westwood #rcgd.” Let’s not forget Vivienne Westwood is one of the most famous redhead designers ever.
Isla Fisher
Fisher opted for a classic silhouette in this white, floral gown and carried a clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo, but my favorite part of her look was her hair and makeup. Her red hair was pulled back in a loose, wavy ponytail, and her red lips added the perfect pop of color to the ensemble.
Amy Poehler
Poehler walked the carpet in a sleek updo, this colorfully embroidered Andrew Gn gown, Brian Atwood shoes, and alongside her favorite awards show accessory–BFF Tina Fey.
Sandy Powell
Receiving two Academy Award nominations for costume design Sunday night, Sandy Powell arrived on the red carpet in this blue metallic pant suit with her eye-catching, cropped, red hair slicked back.
Alexis Mixter
Photographer Alexis Mixter made her Oscar red carpet debut alongside boyfriend Jason Segel. Turns out Segel doesn’t just play characters who fall for redheads (The Five-Year Engagement, How I Met Your Mother), but he’s drawn to those fiery locks in real life as well.
There were many memorable moments at this year’s Academy Awards–Leo’s win, Gaga’s performance, Chris Rock’s opening monologue–and although we didn’t see any redheads take home an Oscar tonight, they represented us well.
