The 101 – CBD In Your Redhead Skincare Routine

CBD skincare has taken over the beauty world and this is how redheads can benefit!

Ever wonder about CBD in your redhead skincare routine? Us too!

CBD is short for the word cannabidiol. It is a popular natural remedy used for many common ailments. It is one of over 100 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis or marijuana plant, Cannabis sativa (1Trusted Source). Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and causes the sensation of getting “high” that’s often associated with marijuana. However, unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. This quality makes CBD an appealing option for those who are looking for relief from pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects of marijuana or certain pharmaceutical drugs. CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil.

CBD skincare has taken over the beauty world and for good reason. So, we have to ask ourselves: what’s so great about this compound derived ingredient that comes from a cannabis plant?

We got all the details from Joan Sutton, redhead and founder of 707 Flora, a CBD skincare company based in California. You *may* just see the 707 Flora skincare brand in an upcoming H2BAR beauty box 😉

“But what really surprised me, is that it gave an overall softness to my skin, both on the dry and oily areas. It relieved the dryness on my cheeks and decreased the shine on my nose and forehead, and overall my skin looks much more radiant and feels healthier.”

1. H2BAR: Why should a redhead add CBD to their skincare routine?

JS: As a redhead, our skin is as special and unique as our hair color. The genes that cause us to have red hair also cause us to have thin skin which is often highly sensitive. Using skincare products with CBD can be especially beneficial to redheads because of the calming and anti-inflammatory benefits. It is also soothing to the skin, and since we redheads are more sensitive to pain, the calming effects of CBD in skincare can offer relief from irritations like dryness and sensitivity.

2. H2BAR: Is there a particular product you recommend for someone starting to implement CBD in their routine (i.e. moisturizer, serum)?

JS: I am personally a huge fan of serums because they are concentrated active ingredients that are applied to the skin first, and usually penetrate pretty quickly. Then you can follow with your regular moisturizer and sunscreen so you can see how CBD adds a boost to your current regimen.

3. H2BAR: What benefits does CBD have on the skin?

JS: There are a lot of benefits CBD has on the skin, but the main idea to understand is that CBD is a regulator, whether you take it internally or use topically. In skincare, we use CBD to help regulate the cells to be balanced and achieve cellular homeostasis. We have CB receptors on the basal layer of the skin, and when CBD binds to the receptors on the cells it signals the nucleus of the cell to be in balance — from hydration to inflammation to oil production. One of the most notable benefits of CBD on the skin is its anti-inflammatory properties. It up-regulates anti-inflammation and down-regulates inflammation. And many do not realize that inflammation can stimulate so much of what happens to our skin – signs of aging, sun damage, acne, skin discolorations, rosacea, sensitivity, and on and on. So it’s not just relieving swollen or red skin, it is so much more.

4. H2BAR: Has your skin personally changed since using CBD?

JS: When I first formulated my skincare line, 707 Flora, in 2017 CBD was still so new and though I had ideas about how it would work, I did a lot of testing on myself to really understand the benefits. I’ve been formulating products for nearly 30 years, so I am very diligent with testing and was actually surprised at the results. Firstly, it didn’t break me out or cause irritation like many products do, even the ones formulated for sensitive skin can be irritating to me. But what really surprised me, is that it gave an overall softness to my skin, both on the dry and oily areas. It relieved the dryness on my cheeks and decreased the shine on my nose and forehead, and overall my skin looks much more radiant and feels healthier.
